Help Sudanese refugees in Chad this Christmas
Families in Sudan are fleeing a devastating conflict in their country, leading to a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions. They need your help to survive.
More than 10 million people have been forced to flee their homes since fighting broke out in Sudan in April 2023.
Out of these millions of people, who have left their homes with nothing, more than one million people have ended up in neighbouring Chad, having taken a perilous journey across the Sudanese border.
Many of those people arrive in refugee camps with nothing but the clothes on their back. With Chad itself one of the poorest countries in the world, we need to provide extra support and provide families with emergency supply kits that include warm blankets, sleeping mats and cooking equipment.
There really is no time to lose.
Hamila's story
Hamila is a 27-year-old mother of five, who once enjoyed a peaceful life in Sudan.
The conflict has been going on for a year and a half, getting closer and closer to Hamila’s city and finally her home. Soon they could hear the sound of fighting in the distance.
“Then one night, they entered our city. They even passed in front of our home. As they were shooting, they shot at our house and the bricks fell on us.”
The next day, Hamila and her children fled for their lives.
“If we stayed, they would have come inside our homes and killed us.”
"If we go back, they are going to kill us"
Hamila had no time to take anything and knew that they would run the risk of being looted if they brought their belongings. As a result, the family finally arrived in Chad, after a perilous journey, with nothing but their lives.
Mothers like Hamila are trying to survive in incredibly difficult conditions.
“Concern has helped us so much. They gave us mats for seating and praying, blankets and kitchen sets. They gave us many things and helped us so much. Without the support we could not live well here.”
New arrivals put even more pressure on the few resources the camp has, but the families who have fled along with the Concern staff in Chad, show a huge amount of resilience and community, trying to help each other to survive.
Mothers like Hamila are doing everything they can to keep their children safe, in the most difficult circumstances. Please help and give what you can today.
Where your donation goes
Life is incredibly tough for all of those who have left Sudan, but your donation can help to provide them with essential goods and services as Christmas approaches.
You can help to provide everything from jerry cans, sleeping mats, blankets, and soap, while your donation will also help to keep a health clinic running that provides vital emergency therapeutic food and medical care for people fleeing violence.
This is a desperate struggle for families like Hamila's to survive but, with your support, we can ensure their safety and security in the most difficult of circumstance.
