Concern Worldwide welcomes Gaza ceasefire deal
Concern Worldwide welcomes any steps that end the fighting and protect the civilian population in Gaza. We hope that all aspects of the proposed peace deal will be implemented, in particular an end to hostilities in Gaza and the release of the remaining Israeli hostages.
The scale of the devastation in Gaza is overwhelming, and it is not possible to quantify the humanitarian needs until all areas are accessible. With 90% of the population of Gaza forced from their homes – often on multiple occasions -- over 46,000 people killed, 100,000 injured, and more than over 11,000 missing, the international community must work with the people of Gaza to help them to rebuild their country and their lives.
“At this early stage, Concern Worldwide hopes that the ceasefire will be implemented and that conditions will be created and sustained to allow the safe delivery of, and access to, adequate humanitarian assistance. This must include the release of all hostages. Sufficient humanitarian funding must also be made available to allow national and international organisations work with communities to rebuild their lives,” Concern Worldwide CEO Dominic Crowley said.
“We hope that the deal means that all civilians, both in Gaza and Israel, who have experienced so much loss and grief can experience peace and feel there is hope for the future.”
Concern is working with our international NGO partner, CESVI to deliver life-saving aid in Gaza. CESVI have reached almost 180,000 people through water trucking and have rehabilitated waste facilities reaching over 36,000 people. They are also working to supply therapeutic food for malnourished children.
Concern is a member of the Disaster Emergency Committee and we support the DEC’s statement in relation to the current situation is Gaza.
