Fast or Give Up
Make a difference for vulnerable communities

With Concern’s FAST and Give Up initiatives, you can take on a challenge that makes a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Whether it’s fasting for 24 hours, giving up something you love, or pushing yourself with a creative personal challenge, your efforts directly support our vital work with vulnerable communities around the world.

Together, we can bring hope and support to those facing incredible challenges.

Want to take part in the Concern Fast but not so keen on going without food for 24 hours? Don’t worry! There are plenty of other ways to take part. Have a look at our top five alternatives to fasting and see what suits you best.

1

Social media blackout

What’s your social media obsession - is it Facebook? Twitter? Instagram? We’re all addicted to our phones these days, which means giving them up for a day, a week, or even a whole month could be a real challenge. Why not take a digital detox and give your brain a rest?
2

The silent treatment

For those of you with the gift of the gab, it could be a real challenge giving up talking for 24 hours, but also a really fun way of trying to find other ways to communicate to friends and family. Do we sense a game of charades coming along?
3

Kicking the habit

Make your family and friends very happy by using the Fast as an excuse to give up yer aul sins, or at least one of them anyway, for a day or a week, or maybe even longer! Could you give up alcohol or cigarettes, for example?
4

Chocoholics anonymous

Is your Achille's heel actually your sweet tooth? Why not consider giving up chocolate, sweets or any other treats! You could even swap them for healthy nuts or dried fruit; granted, not quite the same but it will still help fend off those cravings!
5

Coffee detox

Are you and your colleagues addicted to coffee? Do you have two, three, or more cups a day? Why not consider having a full coffee detox for the day and swap your usual morning-pick-me up for a healthy juice or sparkling water!
